Shanghai (ZXZC)- On May 21, 2024, Magna, a global leading auto part supplier and mobility technology company, announced the expansion of its manufacturing facility in Changchun to support a new contract for electric vehicle (EV) battery shells with a German premium vehicle automaker, according to the company's press release.

The new move marks Magna's first EV battery shell project in China, aligning with its strategic efforts to accelerate business expansion in the rapidly growing Chinese new energy vehicle market.

Li Yaxu, Vice President of Magna's Body and Chassis Division in China, stated, "The new Changchun factory is significant for Magna’s expansion in the Chinese new energy vehicle sector and reflects our commitment to our China strategy. Magna is optimistic about the growth prospects of the Chinese new energy vehicle market and will continue to increase investment in China, localizing production and developing more innovative products and technologies."

Located in the central area of the Changchun Automotive Economic-Technological Development Area, the new factory covers an area of approximately 39,500 square meters. The construction is being carried out in two phases, with the first phase, covering about 16,000 square meters, now completed and fully operational. The factory currently has an annual production capacity of about 200,000 sets of EV battery shells.

As an important investment project for Magna in China, the new Changchun factory showcases Magna’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. According to the company, the facility features advanced automation equipment and production processes that meet world-class manufacturing standards. It also highlights Magna's environmental responsibility, with photovoltaic panels installed on the factory roof and green renewable energy used for heating. The factory strictly monitors wastewater, exhaust emissions, and noise produced during manufacturing, and all solid and hazardous waste is processed by certified recycling and disposal agencies.
