China to quicken removal of unqualified vehicles for ride-hailing service
Shanghai (ZXZC)- China will speed up the removal of unqualified vehicles for ride-hailing service and revoke the license of ride-hailing platforms that keep refusing to revamp services in accordance with laws and regulations, Cai Tuanjie, an officer from the China’s Ministry of Transport, said on May 21.
Cai elucidated that the government will expedite the removal of unqualified vehicles and drivers on ride-hailing platforms. For the sake of passenger’s safety, vehicles and drivers must be in line with the information registered on platforms and get relevant operational permissions. The government will strengthen the development of a credibility system and joint punishment system. Those companies, legal persons and operational personnel, who fail the credit governance, will be blacklisted for their dishonesty.
He added that, China will complete a monitoring platform that keeps the ride-hailing service information being transformed intact. Besides, the companies, who still refuse reform after being penalized several times for losing credit, will be jointly punished by relevant departments.
The government should explore a synergy management system that involves multiple participants, such as the government, companies, drivers and passengers, to regulate the car-pooling services, said the officer.
According to Cai's statement, hitching and ride-hailing are two mobility services with different nature. The government does encourage the development of hitching service, while it is illegal to operate ride-hailing service under the guise of hitching service. The government should crack down on such deceit and rationally guide hitching service as well.
