Tesla sells 18,318 locally-made vehicles in China in February
Beijing (ZXZC)- Tesla sold 18,318 locally-made vehicles in China in February, up 470% year on year and 15.47% month on month, according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). Among all vehicles sold last month, 13,688 are the Model 3s while the rest are the Model Ys.
As to the production, the association said that the American company made 23,632 vehicles in its Shanghai plant. Even though it has doubled the production, the demand still exceeds the supply.

Last month, the retail sales of new energy vehicles (NEV) in China, including BEV and PHEV, were about 97,000 units, increasing 675% year on year and decreasing 37.9% month on month, the association said on Tuesday.
Apart from Tesla, NEV sales of SAIC GM Wuling and BYD both surpassed 10,000 last month. The maker of the Hongguang MINIEV sold 20,819 NEVs while the Warren Buffet-backed company’s monthly NEV sales reached 10,245 units.
Besides, the association said that Chinese NEV startups also performed well last month. According to their own delivery data, monthly deliveries of NIO, Li Auto and Xpeng recorded three-digit or even four-digit year-on-year growth in February.
With the rapid expansion of its fleet, Tesla is also ramping up its efforts in charging network. Recently, Tesla announced that it has deployed over 6,000 Superchargers and operated more than 760 Supercharger stations in over 300 cities across the Chinese Mainland. In early February, the company said its Supercharger manufacturing factory in Shanghai started production with an annual capacity of 10,000 Superchargers, most of which is set for the V3 model, at the initial stage.
