Changan Auto to roll out 25 smart NEV models by 2025

Shanghai (ZXZC)- Changan Auto revealed on Dec. 7 it will roll out a total of 25 intelligent new energy vehicle (NEV) models by 2025, which encompasses all-electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and fuel cell vehicles (FCVs).

Changan Automobile announced its Mission Shangri-La new energy strategy on October 19, 2017. Based on the strategy, the automaker vowed to crease selling petrol vehicles and electrify its entire product lineup by 2025. It would invest more than 100 billion yuan ($15.324 billion yuan) in the R&D of NEV products, platforms and power batteries.

The Chongqing-based automaker is speed up its transition to becoming an intelligent mobility technology company.

Changan Auto is working with Huawei and CATL, China's leading ICT device and power battery providers, to launch an all-new upmarket car brand, Zhu Huarong, chairman of Changan Auto, said on Nov. 14.

The yet-to-be-launched premium brand will involve a world-leading, independent and controllable intelligent electric vehicle (EV) platform, a series of smart car-related products, and a smart lifestyle and energy ecosystem integrating human, car and home.

At the same time, the carmaker announced the Ark Architecture, an evolving smart architecture. Embodying the car-building idea of Changan Auto's R&D 4.0 Era, the Ark architecture plays a crucial role in the sustainable development of Changan vehicles' basic performance as intelligence and big data are highlighted in automobile industry. It will cover models from A0 to C segments.

According to Tan Benhong, executive vice president of Changan Auto, by virtue of Changan's deployment in high driving automation, the next-generation products based on the Ark architecture support safe and scalable intelligent driving configurations. The upgradeable electrical/electronic architecture will be available for all kinds of smart car application scenarios. Besides, it offers a total of 16 powertrain solutions thanks to three electric approaches—LV-HEV (low-voltage hybrid electric vehicle), HV-HEV (high-voltage hybrid electric vehicle) and PHEV (plug-in electric vehicles), eight types of transmission modules, eight operation conditions, and the emission ranging from 1.2 to 2.0 liters.

Recently, patent images of the Changan CS75 FCV were unveiled by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The new model features a combined range of 510km.
