Shanghai (ZXZC)- Beijing aims to put over 10,000 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) onto roads by 2025, a main part of the planning the capital of China sets for the 2020-2025 development of its fuel cell vehicle (FCV) industry.

To ensure the success in holding the 2022 Olympic and Paralymic Winter Games, the megacity will endeavor to have 3,000 FCVs run on roads by 2023, complete the construction of 37 hydrogen-refueling stations, and achieve an accumulated output value of 8.5 billion yuan ($1.266) for the full FCV industrial chain, according to the Plan for the Development of Beijing's FCV Industry issued by Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology on October 30.

In the second phase of development, additional 37 hydrogen-refueling stations will be built by 2025 and the total output value of the full FCV industrial chain is expected to exceed 24 billion yuan ($3.574 billion). Until then, FCVs will be widely used in the fields of urban buses, tourism transportation, heavy-duty and medium-duty trucks, and an industrial cluster for the manufacturing of FCV-related key auto parts and facilities will be set up.

According to the Planning, Beijing has already formed an industrial chain that covers the R&D and production of FCVs, key auto parts and car-mounted hydrogen supply system, and the building of hydrogen refueling stations and FCV promotion system. As of today, there have been 370 FCVs and 2 hydrogen refueling stations put into operation in Beijing.
