Shanghai (ZXZC)- Brilliance Auto plans to build a battery-only electric vehicle (BEV) plant in Wuxi, Jiangsu with an annual capacity of 50,000 units and two all-new BEV models will be produced there. Involving an investment of rough 1.7 billion yuan ($244 million), the project is expected to be completed in 2020, according to an announcement from the Department of Ecology and Environment of Jiangsu Province.

The plant, sited in Xishan district of Wuxi, will lease such fixed assets as land and workshops from a new energy technology company. The Chinese automobile manufacturer will also construct production lines of stamping, welding, painting and assembly as well as facilities for sewage disposal, power and energy and public ancillary works.

Two four-seater pure electric cars, code-named w32h and w35h, are scheduled to offer 300km of range. The w32h, measuring 3,288mm long, 1,670 wide and 1,563mm high with a wheelbase of 2,185mm, is slated to have a production of 20,000 units annually, while 30,000 w35h vehicles, with 3,583mm length, 1,670mm width, 1,564mm height and 2,480mm wheelbase, will be made on an annual basis.

Under the Shenyang-headquartered automaker’s plan, it will roll out cost-effective models mainly for the private consumers next year to meet the demand after the phasing-out of subsidies. In 2021, it is supposed to launch mid- and high- end products based on its exclusive electric platform.
