At the 2019 World New Energy Vehicle Congress kicking off on July 1, Chen Zhixin, President of SAIC Motor, delivered a speech to share SAIC Motor's experience in exploring and pursue high-quality technology-driven development for China’s new energy vehicle (NEV) industry with attendees.

The highlights of his speech fall on four key points—the integration of “new four technical modernizations”, core NEV technologies, the NEV safety and the hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle.

Mr. Chen said SAIC Motor is building the first-generation 5G-based intelligent cockpit and aims to energize the innovative NEV development with such cutting-edged technologies as 5G and AI.

Besides, the group is accelerating a new round of technical innovation in NEV-related core parts, including electric power transmission, electrical axis, inverter and battery management system, and is building its own NEV architecture with a world's leading technical level.

The shanghai-based automaker is developing much safer NEVs by working on the security performances of battery cells, structure and high voltage as well as the prevention of thermal runaway, Chen Zhixin added.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chen stated that SAIC Motor will speed up the industrialization of fuel cell vehicles with more products, covering premium sedans, light buses, city buses, heavy-duty trucks and other CVs, to be launched in the future.

A hydrogen-refueling station jointly built by Shanghai Chemical Industry Park and the SAIC Motor was officially launched on June 5 at the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park. It is said to the world's biggest one so far.

Covering around 8,000 square meters, the full-scenario hydrogen-refueling station would serve 20 SAIC Motor-owned fuel cell vehicles deployed at the pilot industry park and also offer relevant business services to the public. In addition, the station is able to supply some 2 ton of hydrogen per day with other services like tank truck refueling, maintenance and charging for fuel cell vehicles.
