Shanghai (ZXZC)- China has been honored the world's largest NEV market in terms of both outputs and sales for the fifth year in a row as of 2019, Xin Guobin, vice minister of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), said at a press conference the State Council Information Office held on July 23.

He said China has to-day promoted over 4.5 million NEVs, which accounted for over 50% of the total volume for the whole world. China's NEV industry has come a long way since 2009 when the "ten cities, one thousand new energy vehicles" project was kicked off, and has grown to one of important powers that lead the transformation and upgrading of the country’s automotive industry.

From the aspect of the industrial development, China’s NEV industry is making evident progress in technical level, said Mr. Xin. For instance, the ranges of mainstream NEV models basically surpass 400km, and power battery cells generally feature an energy density of 250Wh/kg.

Besides, the improvement in the whole industrial system is also notable and the connection of various links along the industrial chain, covering base materials, batteries, electric motors, complete vehicles, ECUs and manufacturing facilities, has been basically achieved. From the time being, there have been roughly 38,000 charging stations, 449 battery swapping stations as well as 1.3 million charging piles—551,000 for public services and 749,000 for private use—built countrywide.

Moreover, a highway intercity fast-charging network that spans 49,000 kilometers has been already formed in the country, according to Xin Guobin.
