The report came after Tao Lin, Tesla's global vice president, had a talk with an official of Chongqing Liangjiang New Area. She said Tesla will step up the communication with local government and better cultivate the true value of their advantages so as to help them produce greater achievements in some key projects.
Liangjiang New Area is taking faster moves to upgrade its automobile industry and perfect relevant industrial chain for outputting better auto products and improving the operational efficiency, according to Duan Chenggang, director of Chongqing Liangjiang New Area Management Committee. The collaboration between Liangjiang New Area and Tesla, the leading global NEV manufacturer, features ample room to work and promising future, he added.
Tesla has currently possessed one manufacturing plant in the world's largest auto market—the Shanghai-based Gigafactory 3, which is also the first car production plant wholly owned by a foreign company. According to the China Passenger Car Association, the U.S. EV manufacturer has to-day delivered 45,754 China-made Model 3s as of June, which substantially outnumbered the other NEV models in the country.
Tesla is seeking to lower cost by adopting more auto parts from local suppliers. Some local reports said earlier this week that the Chinese power battery giant CATL would start supplying Tesla with its batteries from July. Nonetheless, CATL immediately replied that it has not released any official statement yet.
