Shanghai (ZXZC)- SAIC Volkswagen (SAIC VW) started on Jan. 21 the presale of its first MED-based model, the ID.4 X. Offered in five trim levels, the new all-electric model is priced between 199,888 yuan ($30,800) and 272,888 yuan ($42,050) after subsidies for preorder.

Retaining much of the design seen on the ID.4 available for sale outside China, the ID.4 X features an extravagantly designed bumper at the front and a closed-off grille rendering more futuristic cues.

The ID.4 X adopts the IQ.Light, a LED matrix headlight cluster with daytime headlights. Its light modules are made up of 11 LEDs each, which can be individually switched off and dimmed. Thus, they can emit an intelligently-controlled continuous main beam, always illuminating the road as bright as possible, while not dazzling pedestrians. Besides, a light strip runs across the front end to link the headlights on both sides.
The dynamic essence of the side profile is underscored by the upward character lines. With dimensions of 4,612mm long, 1,852mm wide, 1,640mm tall, and a wheelbase spanning 2,765mm, the ID.4 X plays in the league of medium-sized SUVs.
Compared to the standard ID.4, there are some differences to the rear. The X's taillights have a light strip that runs the width of the vehicle and connects to the center portion of the main lamps. The styling of the lower fascia also differentiates the two versions, with the X using rounder shapes.

The ID.4 X uses the IQ. Drive L2+ driver assistance system that supports a slew of functions such as Front Assist, FCW (forward collision warning), AEB (autonomous emergency braking), Travel Assist 2.0 basic, RCTA (rear cross-traffic alert), TSR (traffic sign recognition) and MKE fatigue detection system.
The full-electric SUV adopts a ternary-lithium battery pack that offers two optional capacities—57.3kWh and 83.4kWh, coming with three NEDC-rated ranges of 402km, 555km and 520km.
The ID.4 supports both DC and AC charging models. It can be charged to 80% from 30% of its battery capacity within as least 30 minute and travel about 100km on a 10-minute charge.
