China EV insurance registrations for week ending May 12: Nio 4,400, Tesla 9,800, BYD 68,500, Xiaomi 1,100

For May 1-12, Nio was 5,600, Xpeng 2,800, Li Auto 10,800, Xiaomi 2,000, Tesla 16,900, and BYD 101,300 units.

Nio delivered 15,620 vehicles in April, up 31.64 percent from March and up 134.60 percent year-on-year, according to figures it announced on May 1.

The company will officially launch Onvo, its sub-brand for the mass market, tomorrow.

Li Auto had 8,000 insurance registrations last week, up 50.94 percent from 5,300 the week before.

For May 1-12, Li Auto vehicles had 10,800 insurance registrations in China.

The company delivered 25,787 vehicles in April, up 0.41 percent year-on-year but down 11.03 percent from March.

Li Auto launched the five-seat SUV Li L6 on April 18, its latest extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) model following the Li L7, Li L8 and Li L9.

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) had 2,300 insurance registrations last week, up 64.29 percent from 1,400 the week before.

For May 1-12, Xpeng vehicles had 2,800 insurance registrations in China.

It delivered 9,393 vehicles in April, up 4.07 percent from March and up 32.69 percent year-on-year.

The X9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) had monthly deliveries of 1,959 units in April and cumulative deliveries since its launch are approaching 10,000 units, Xpeng said on May 1.

Xpeng will debut its new brand, MONA (Made of New AI), in June, a delay from previously announced plans.

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) had 9,800 insurance registrations in China last week, down 10.91 percent from 11,000 the week before and the second consecutive weekly decrease.

For May 1-12, Tesla vehicles had 16,900 insurance registrations in China.

Tesla sold 31,421 units in China in April, down 49.64 percent from 62,398 in March and down 21.36 percent from 39,956 a year earlier, according to data released earlier this month by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

The US EV maker sold 62,167 China-made vehicles in April, including 30,746 exported.

BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) vehicles had 68,500 insurance registrations in China last week, up 30.23 percent from 52,600 the week before.

For May 1-12, BYD vehicles had 101,300 insurance registrations in China.

BYD sold 313,245 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in April, up 48.96 percent from 210,295 in the same month last year and up 3.57 percent from 302,459 in March.

In April, BYD sold a record 41,011 vehicles in overseas markets, surpassing March's previous record of 38,434. That's up 176.6 percent year-on-year and up 6.71 percent from March.

Xiaomi's insurance registrations last week stood at 1,100 vehicles, up from 1,000 in the previous week.

For May 1-12, Xiaomi vehicles had 2,000 insurance registrations in China.

Xiaomi EV's factory halted production over the Labor Day holiday earlier this month in order to maintain equipment and ramp up capacity, it said on Weibo last night.

This is intended to prepare for the continued rapid ramp-up of delivery capacity next, Xiaomi EV said.

Xiaomi officially launched its first EV model, the SU7, on March 28, offering three trims -- standard, Pro, and Max -- with starting prices of RMB 215,900 ($29,820), RMB 245,900, and RMB 299,900, respectively.

Xiaomi was offering a Founders Edition for the SU7, limited to 5,000 units, with deliveries starting on April 3. Deliveries of the SU7's customized vehicles began on April 18.

The SU7 delivered 7,058 units in April, with 88,063 locked-in orders as of April 30, Xiaomi's EV division Xiaomi EV announced on May 1.

Zeekr had 4,000 insurance registrations last week, up 11.11 percent from 3,600 the week before.

For May 1-12, Zeekr had the number at 5,600 vehicles.

Zeekr delivered 16,089 vehicles in April, a new high since its inception.

Leapmotor was at 4,700 vehicles last week, up 104.35 percent from 2,300 the week before. It was at 5,600 units in the period from May 1-12.

Leapmotor delivered 15,005 vehicles in April, up 71.96 percent year-on-year and up 3.01 percent from March.

Huawei-backed Aito was at 6,000 vehicles last week, up 25 percent from 4,800 the week before. For May 1-12, that figure for Aito was 8,100 vehicles.
