Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) raised the price of the basic Model Y in China by RMB 2,000 ($295), after a price cut for all China-made models a month ago.

The Tesla Model Y rear-wheel drive version has an updated starting price of RMB 261,900 in China, up from RMB 259,900 previously, according to its China website.

Tesla has a factory in Shanghai that produces the Model 3 and Model Y. The company currently offers two versions of the Model 3 in China, as well as three versions of the Model Y.

The EV maker significantly lowered the prices of the full Model 3 and Model Y lineup in China on January 6, with the price of the entry-level Model Y reduced by 29,000 yuan at that time from RMB 288,900 to RMB 259,900.

The entry-level Model 3's starting price was at that time reduced to RMB 229,900, down RMB 36,000 from RMB 265,900 previously. This was an all-time low for the Model 3 starting price in China.

It's the second time in three months that Tesla has significantly cut prices in China, in response to the slumping demand it faces in the country with the slowing economy and growing competition.

On January 9, the expected delivery dates for both the entry-level rear-wheel drive Model Y and the dual-motor all-wheel drive Model Y Long Range were changed from the previous 1-4 weeks to 2-5 weeks.

The expected delivery date for the two versions of the Model 3 -- the entry-level rear-wheel drive version and the two-motor all-wheel drive Model 3 Performance -- was also unchanged at that time, at 1-4 weeks.

Last week, Tesla's Model Y Long Range price was raised by $1,500 in the US to an updated price of $54,990. The Model Y Performance was then priced up $1,000 to $57,990 in the US.

Tesla delivered 26,843 vehicles in China in January, and the Shanghai plant exported 39,208, according to data released earlier this week by the CPCA.

The Model 3 sold 12,659 units at retail in China in January, placing it fourth in the CPCA's ranking of the best-selling new energy sedans.

The Model Y sold 14,184 units at retail in China in January, ranking No. 2 in China for high-end SUVs with a starting price above RMB 300,000.

The Mercedes-Benz GLC sold 14,317 units in China in January, narrowly edging out the Model Y for the top spot on the list. Sales of the Mercedes-Benz SUV were down 35.9 percent year-on-year.

The Model Y topped the list of best-selling premium SUVs in China in December and for the full year 2022 with 29,387 and 315,314 units sold, respectively.
