Shanghai (ZXZC)- VOYAH, the high-end NEV arm of Chinese state-owned carmaker Dongfeng Motor Corporation, launched on Sept. 17 two in-house developed battery systems, dubbed “Hupo” and “Yunmu” (meaning “amber” and “mica” in English), which will be applied in the VOYAH FREE's all-electric and range-extended versions respectively.

To demonstrate the safety performance of the newly-launched systems, the automaker used labs at the China Automotive Technology & Research Center (CATARC), where the battery packs using“Hupo” and “Yunmu” sailed through several functional tests under conditions of squeezing, crash, high temperature, and water with results much better than what the new national standards request on the safety of EV-used power batteries.

VOYAH does not manufacture battery cells, but focuses on developing solutions for battery system safety. The automaker said it created the industry's first “three-dimensional thermal-insulation wall” technology, which aims at individual and all-round wrapping for every cell by using thermal diffusion-free heat-resistant & flame-retardant materials in the battery pack. The three-dimensional thermal-protective coating can “calm down” and make cells “keep in place” before thermal runaway.

Cooperating with partners, VOYAH developed the cloud-based BMS (battery management system) dedicated to VOYAH-branded cars, which can remotely analyze and manage power battery data and simultaneously serve over one million cars, so as to protect users for the whole service life of batteries. It should be pointed out that the system can only smoothly work based on the support of OTA (over-the-air) function.
