For Nio, the new ES6 is something to look forward to, as it has contributed the most sales to Nio in a long time.

Spy shots of Nio's (NYSE: NIO) refreshed ES6 based on the NT 2.0 platform first appeared on Chinese social media last week, and now new spy shots show more details.

Auto blogger @君豪爱魔术 shared several spy photos allegedly of the new Nio ES6 on Weibo today, showing the car looking very similar to the current ES6 but with the NT 2.0 platform's standard LiDAR setup on the roof.

The blogger said the images were taken on the road while he was on a business trip to Hefei, Anhui province, where Nio vehicles are currently produced at two factories.

For the new ES6, the biggest change that can be seen so far compared to the current ES6 and the other SUVs on the NT 2.0 platform -- the new ES8, EC7 and ES7 -- is that the charging port has been adjusted to the rear of the vehicle, the blogger said.

Nio currently sells the new ES8, EC7, ES7, ET7 and ET5 based on the NT 2.0 platform, as well as the old ES8, ES6 and EC6 based on the NT 1.0 platform.

The EC7 and the new ES8 were launched at the Nio Day 2022 event on December 24, and deliveries will begin in May and June 2023, respectively.

On November 10, William Li, founder, chairman and CEO of Nio, said in a conference call following Nio's third-quarter earnings announcement that Nio will launch five models by the first half of 2023 and will have a total of eight available models by June.

All three of Nio's NT 1.0-based models are expected to transition to the NT 2.0 platform for a better intelligent cockpit and greater assisted driving capabilities.

Some say the ES6 based on the NT 2.0 platform will be launched in the third quarter of this year, while others say it may be launched on Nio Day at the end of the year, the blogger said.

For Nio, the new ES6 is something to look forward to, as the current model is Nio's cheapest SUV and has contributed the most sales for the company in a long time.

From January to August 2022, the ES6 delivered 32,877 units, contributing 46 percent of Nio's total deliveries of 71,556 units in that period, according to figures monitored by CnEVPost from the company and the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

Nio stopped reporting ES6 sales starting with deliveries in July 2022. It started deliveries of the new SUV ES7 on August 28.
