Nio adds 40 swap stations in Aug, 35 of them 4th-gen
Nio has begun to push forward with its Power Up Counties plan, with five county-level administrative regions seeing their first Nio battery swap stations go into operation in August.
Nio (NYSE: NIO) added more battery swap stations last month, though that was still low compared to the same period last year.
The electric vehicle (EV) maker added 40 battery swap stations in China in August, doubling the 19 it added in July, according to a post on the Nio App today.
Of the battery swap stations added last month, 35 were the latest fourth-generation stations, according to the company. This means that Nio also added five older stations in August.
Nio unveiled its fourth-generation swap stations on Nio Day 2023 on December 23, 2023, and put the first fourth-generation stations into service on June 13 this year.
The company announced plans to add 1,000 battery swap stations in 2024 at Nio Day 2023. However, Nio founder, chairman, and CEO William Li hinted in July that the goal could be delayed.
At the end of 2023, Nio had 2,316 battery swap stations in China.
At the end of August, the number of such facilities in China stood at 2,498. As of today, the number stood at 2,504.
The company unveiled its progress and new plans for infrastructure development at its Power Up 2024 event on August 20, with a goal of having its battery swap station network cover more than 2,300 counties by December 31, 2025.
Nio has already started progressing with its Power Up Counties plan, with five county-level administrative regions seeing the first Nio battery swap station put into operation in August, the company said today.
In August, Nio provided 2,377,094 battery swap services, an average of 76,680 per day, according to the company.
This means that about 1 Nio vehicle completed a battery swap service every 1.13 seconds, Nio said.
On average, each Nio user used the battery swap service four times in August, each time taking about three minutes, according to the company.
Compared to charging, the battery swap service saves Nio customers three hours and 48 minutes of time each month.
The company also added 285 new charging piles in August, with nine county-level administrative regions seeing their first charging piles under the Power Up Counties plan, according to the company.
The EV maker aims to have its charging network cover all county-level administrative regions in China by June 30, 2025.
As of today, Nio has 2,333 supercharging stations in China, offering 10,631 superchargers. It also has 1,636 destination charging stations offering 12,562 chargers.
Nio provided 2,383,168 charging services in August and cumulatively provided more than 46.3 million charging services by the end of August, with 80 percent of the orders serving non-Nio branded vehicles, according to the company.
Cumulatively, Nio's charging facilities have served more than 200 brands of EVs to date.
Nio provided 17,225 battery upgrades in August for a cumulative total of 283,038 battery upgrades.
The EV maker is also advancing its infrastructure in Europe, where it has 54 battery swap stations to date, 18 each in Germany and Norway, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
Nio delivered 20,176 vehicles in August, up 4.38 percent year-on-year but down 1.57 percent from July, according to data released on September 1.
So far this year, Nio has delivered 128,100 vehicles, up 35.77 percent.
The company will announce its unaudited financial results for the second quarter of 2024 on September 5, before the US markets open, with an analyst call beginning at 8:00 pm on the same day.
It will also hold a user communication session on adjustments to the battery swap stations charging model on Friday, September 6, starting at 7:00 pm Beijing Time.
