BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) unveiled the Ocean-M concept at the Beijing auto show in late April, and now its production version is about to be unveiled.

The production version of the Ocean-M concept is named the Seal 06 GT, said Zhang Zhuo, head of BYD's Ocean series, on Weibo today.

The model will be unveiled at the Chengdu auto show on August 30 and aims to be the GT model of choice for young people, he said.

This year's Chengdu auto show will begin on August 30 and last until September 8. Chengdu is the capital city of Sichuan province in southwest China.

The Seal 06 GT is an all-electric mid-size sedan based on BYD's latest all-electric platform, the e-Platform 3.0 Evo, Zhang said today.

The model will be equipped with a number of BYD's world-first technologies, bringing outstanding performance in terms of aesthetics, safety, comfort, intelligence and efficiency, he said.

BYD unveiled the Ocean-M at the 2024 Beijing auto show in late April, saying at the time that it would be the industry's first rear-wheel-drive performance hatchback.

The production Ocean-M would go on sale in the third quarter of this year, with a price range of RMB 150,000 ($21,020) to RMB 200,000, BYD said at the time.

The Ocean-M will be based on BYD's new all-electric platform and will be powered by a new generation of C2B (cell to body) batteries, BYD said.

The new all-electric platform is the e-Platform 3.0 Evo, which was officially announced on May 10 and brings a higher level of integration and enhanced performance compared to its predecessor, the e-Platform 3.0.

The Sealion 07 all-electric SUV (sport utility vehicle), the first model based on the e-Platform 3.0 Evo, went on sale on May 10th with a starting price of RMB 189,800 yuan.
