BYD Yangwang U9 achieves top speed of 375.12 km/h in track test
The Yangwang U9 achieved a top speed of 375.12 km/h in a track test, exceeding the 300 km/h mentioned on the model's regulatory filing page.
Yangwang, the luxury brand of BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY), showed off the U9's speed performance on the track, as deliveries of the electric supercar are set to begin soon.
The Yangwang U9 achieved a top speed of 375.12 kilometers per hour during a track test, the brand's chief, Hu Xiaoqing, said on Weibo today.
The test was conducted on May 28 to examine the vehicle's overall performance at high speeds, according to a video shared by Hu.
The track performance exceeded the top speed of 300 kilometers per hour mentioned on the Yangwang U9's regulatory filing page.
BYD officially launched the Yangwang on January 5, 2023, to target the ultra-luxury car market, when it gave the U8 as well as the U9 their debut.
The Yangwang U8 went on sale on September 20 last year with a starting price of RMB 1,098,000 ($152,930) and deliveries began on November 24 last year.
On February 25 this year, Yangwang launched the U9, offering only one version with a starting price of RMB 1.68 million.
The 2-seater battery electric vehicle (BEV) model is powered by four electric motors, each with a peak power of 240 kW and a total peak power of 960 kW.
Its powertrain delivers up to 1,306 Ps horsepower and 1,680 Nm of power output, allowing the vehicle to sprint from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 2.36 seconds.
Yangwang announced on July 27 that the U9 had entered the production scheduling phase and that deliveries would begin in late August.
Earlier today, Yangwang said the Yangwang U9 show cars have arrived at Yangwang showrooms in Chengdu, Xi'an, Changsha, Ningbo, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
The electric supercar's show cars will also soon be available at Yangwang showrooms in Xiamen, Suzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Zhengzhou, Jinan, and Wuhan, according to the brand.
Yangwang delivered 439 vehicles in July, up 5.02 percent from 418 in June, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
Cumulatively, Yangwang has delivered 7,940 vehicles since deliveries began last November.
