Neta Auto, a brand owned by Chinese electric vehicle (EV) company Hozon Auto, has started previewing the shooting brake variant of its flagship sedan, the Neta S, which is expected to hit the market later this month.
The Neta S shooting brake will be the world's only shooting brake-style sedan with an extended-range powertrain, Neta wrote on Weibo today.
Neta didn't release any more information, but shared multiple images showing details of the model, including a LiDAR on the roof.
Originally launched on July 31, 2022, the Neta S is Neta's first effort in the mid-to-high-end market and is offered in extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) versions.
The 2024 Neta S, currently on sale, was launched on July 31, 2023, and is offered in seven options, including three EREV variants and four BEV variants, with a starting price in the range of RMB 154,800 ($21,570) to RMB 224,800.
Some of the top-trim variants of the Neta S come with two LiDARs, but they are placed in the front bumper.
Sedan derivatives like wagons are a niche market in China, with only a small number of previously available models.
The Zeekr 001, the first model from Geely's Zeekr (NYSE: ZK), is the first attempt by a local automaker in this segment, and it's been an unexpected success. The model currently has a starting price of RMB 269,000 in China.
Nio launched the ET5 Touring in China on June 15, 2023, at the same price as the regular ET5 sedan, starting at RMB 298,000 including the battery, and is the second local model targeting the segment.
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) also now has several models with shooting brake style.
In a January 24 Weibo post, Hozon CEO Zhang Yong shared a rendering of a camouflage-wrapped Neta S shooting brake, saying it was internally codenamed EP41 and was expected to be launched in the middle of this year.
Speaking at the launch of the BEV variant of Neta L on June 28, Zhang said the Neta S shooting brake would go on sale in August and volume deliveries would begin in September.
The model has previously been included in a regulatory catalog from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), showing length, width and height of 4,980 mm, 1,980 mm and 1,480 mm, respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,980 mm.
The Neta S shooting brake will be available in BEV and EREV variants and in single and dual motor options, according to the catalog. Its single-motor version clicks in at 200 kW peak power and the dual-motor version has an additional front motor with 170 kW peak power.
Neta delivered 11,015 vehicles in July, up 9.72 percent year-on-year and up 7.93 percent from June, according to data it announced on August 1.
