China Jan-Nov new energy PV wholesale volume shoots up 87% YoY

Shanghai (ZXZC)- China saw its wholesale volume of new energy passenger vehicles (PV) amount to 131,880 units in November, surging 63% from the previous year, according to the data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). For the first eleven months, the cumulative new energy PV sales totaled 857,696 units nationwide, skyrocketing 87% compared with the same period a year ago. 

The battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales reached 104,577 units, climbing 11% month on month (MoM) and leaping 58% year on year (YoY). By the end of November, a total of 634,505 BEVs were sold this year with a remarkable YoY surge of 73%, which accounted for 74% of China’s total YTD new energy PV sales. 

As for the Nov. performance of specific segments, the A0-class’ and A-class sales shot up 404% and 196% respectively over the year-ago period to 15,833 units and 33,490 units. The A00-class segment, taking up 49% of overall BEV sales, saw its sales edge up 2% from a year earlier to 51,590 units last month. The C-class BEV sales tremendously skyrocketed 15,914% YoY due to the very small basis laid in a year ago.

Among the top 10 car markers by Nov. new energy PV wholesale volume, BYD (the champion), Geely Auto, Chery Automobile, Hawtai Motor and SAIC-GM-Wuling all achieved YoY growth of over 100%, yet BAIC BJEV (the runner-up), Zotye Auto and JAC Motors faced YoY sales downturn.

The top 3 BEV models by Nov. sales were the BAIC EC Series, the BYD Yuan EV and the JMC E200. The sales of the champion model declined 10% from the year-ago period. The fastest-growing BEV model should be the BYD e5, ranking fourth on the list. In addition, the Nov. sales of the NIO ES8 reached 3,349 units, soaring 63% MoM.

China's sales of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) soared 87% from the year-ago period to 27,303 units in November and totaled 223,191 units for the first eleven months with an impressive YoY increase of 144%.

The BYD Tang maintained the championship by PHEV monthly sales. The BYD Qin was still the runner-up despite a YoY sales decline of 8%. Besides, the BYD Song DM and the Roewe eRX5 saw their Nov. sales fall 9% and 43% YoY respectively.
