New Nio Phone appears in regulatory database as launch nears
The Nio IN 2024 event is expected to take place in a week's time, when Nio may launch its second-generation Nio Phone.
Nio's (NYSE: NIO) new Nio Phone has been included in a regulatory database, paving the way for its upcoming release.
A 5G mobile phone, model number N2401, received a China Compulsory Certificate (CCC) certification on July 17, a CnEVPost query at the China Quality Certification Center shows.
The manufacturer of that new Nio Phone is Hunan-based Lens Technology, as before, its CCC certificate information shows.
CCC is China's mandatory product certification system, which has been in place since May 2002 as part of efforts to protect consumer rights.
The first-generation Nio Phone was granted a CCC certificate on September 15, 2023, with model number N2301, as previously reported by CnEVPost.
Nio launched the first-generation Nio Phone at the Nio IN 2023 event on September 21, 2023, at a starting price of RMB 6,499 ($900).
The company's management has previously mentioned several times that the Nio Phone would get a major update once a year, just like Apple's iPhone.

On June 17, Ma Lin, Nio's assistant vice president of branding and communications, said on Weibo that the company had already started preparations for the Nio IN 2024 event.
The main feature of the first-generation Nio Phone is the interaction with Nio vehicles, with the device offering an action button that allows users to quickly activate more than 30 functions, including controlling the vehicle's features such as adjusting the air conditioning and switching on and off seat massage.
Over the past few months, Nio has been giving away free Nio Phones to customers who purchase its 2024 models as part of a measure to enhance the appeal of the vehicles.
William Li, Nio's founder, chairman and CEO, said at a car-owner meetup in Wuhan, Hubei province in central China, on March 17 that the second-generation Nio Phone had completed development and was in the manufacturing stage.
On July 14, Nio showed off the chassis capabilities of its executive flagship sedan, the ET9, in a new video and teased that the next-generation Nio Phone is coming soon.
