The Xpeng G6, a Tesla Model Y competitor, will open for ordering in the UK later this year.

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) brought the G6 to the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024, marking the SUV's (sport utility vehicle) UK debut.

Xpeng announced today that it will showcase its latest European model, the G6 during the company's UK event debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024, according to a press release from the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker.

The G6 will be open for ordering in the UK later this year, Xpeng said, adding that during the Festival of Speed, potential UK customers will be able to learn more about Xpeng, preview the G6 and see it in action as it makes its debut on the Goodwood hill climb.

Born in 1993, the Goodwood Festival of Speed is one of the most prestigious motorsports festivals in the world, and is usually held in the town of Goodwood, England, in June and July each year.

This year's edition of the event will take place from July 11-14 and will feature a large number of cars.

Xpeng's move comes as it continues its European expansion, having begun deliveries of the P7i sedan in Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands and Sweden last year.

Xpeng launched the G9 SUV and P7 sedan in Germany in March and the G9 and G6 in France in May.

The G6 was launched in China on June 29, 2023, with deliveries beginning in early July last year.

The SUV is a competitor to Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y, a battery electric vehicle (BEV) that is a global bestseller.

The G6 is currently priced from RMB 199,900 ($27,510) in China, lower than the RMB 249,900 price tag of the Model Y.

The SUV saw deliveries rise after its launch as capacity climbed, and reached nearly 9,000 units delivered in a single month late last year.

But the G6's performance has been a roller-coaster ride overall, slipping significantly early this year, falling to 1,161 units in February, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

Since February, however, G6 deliveries have continued to improve, recovering to 5,426 units by June.

In the first half of the year, the G6 delivered 15,357 units, contributing 29.52 percent of Xpeng's 52,028 deliveries.
