BYD new energy vehicle sales total 14,241 units in May
Shanghai (ZXZC)- BYD reported its sales of 37,780 units in May, seeing a slight growth compared to last month. The cumulative sales through May reached 186,920 units. Specifically, fuel-powered vehicles' May sales and YTD sales reached 23,539 units and 129,124 units respectively. Deliveries of new energy vehicles (NEV) totaled 14,241 units in May, and NEV's cumulative sales reached 57,796 units till the end of May.
As to fuel-powered vehicles, sales of sedan, SUV and MPV reached 4,634 units,4,620 units and 14,285 units respectively in May. Generally speaking, BYD's fuel-powered vehicles suffered unstable sales performance during the past five months. In January, its sales reached 35,008 units, but declined to 17,916 units in February. In March, BYD saw sales revival of fuel-powered vehicles to nearly 30,000 units. During March and May, BYD posted stable sales performance. Particularly, sales gap between April and May was less than 100 units.
As to NEVs, driven by the BYD Qin, Tang and Song DM, BYD reported sales of 13,388 units in passenger vehicles. Among them, sales of pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles reached 5,213 units and 8,175 units respectively in May.
During the past five months, BYD's average monthly sales reached more than 13,000 units. It is noteworthy that BYD took the lead in global EV sales with cumulative deliveries reaching over 40,000 from January to April. Considering its May sales data, BYD possesses great potential to beat other brands to win the NEV sales championship once again during January and May.
In 2018, BYD will challenge annual NEV sales target of 200,000 units. However, by the end of May, BYD only completed 29% of its annual NEV sales target. Only the monthly delivery reaching 20,000 units for the next seven months can it complete 2018 NEV sales target.
