Xpeng shows details of the side design of the Mona M03 in a new image.

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) today shared a new image of the M03, the first model from the sub-brand codenamed Mona, showing the model's side design.

The new image shows the M03 with smooth overall side lines, charging port located on the left right side, and the Xpeng logo on the rear.

“Xpeng Mona M03 will say goodbye to boredom,” Mona's dedicated Weibo account wrote in Chinese.

Unlike yesterday's poster when the first official image of the model was released with the model name Xpeng M03, today's new poster shows the "Xpeng Mona M03" model name.

It is worth noting that the information shared by Xpeng on social media in the last two days is somewhat confusing.

While the company's management had previously called it a new brand in several references to Mona, recently Xpeng seemed to be emphasizing that it is only a new product lineup.

The M03's model name still carries the Xpeng branding, unlike what Nio (NYSE: NIO) did with the Onvo L60, the first model from its sub-brand Onvo.

The Mona project has experienced delays in the past few months.

Xpeng chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said on March 16 that the company would launch a new brand within the next month, targeting the market with prices ranging from RMB 100,000 ($13,790) to RMB 150,000 yuan.

At an AI Day event on May 20, Mr. He said the first Mona model would be unveiled in June. So far, however, Xpeng has not announced when it will officially launch the new model.

In announcing its acquisition of ride-hailing giant Didi Global's electric vehicle business on August 28, 2023, Xpeng said it planned to launch the new brand, codenamed Mona, in 2024.

The first model of the Mona project will be an A-class smart electric model to be launched in 2024, and the new model and brand will differentiate itself from Xpeng-branded products and the main brand, it said last year.
