Workers at the Xiaomi EV factory work 10-11 hours a day, six days a week, according to local media.

Xiaomi's car factory is hiring a large number of workers with monthly salaries of up to RMB 10,000 ($1,380) and a bonus amounting to one month's salary at the end of the year, local media outlet Sina Tech reported today.

A number of human resource service providers are hiring factory workers for Xiaomi as part of its efforts to meet annual delivery targets for Xiaomi EV, according to the report.

These factory workers are paid a combined monthly salary of around RMB 8,000 and up to RMB 10,000, according to the report.

Because of the delivery pressure, workers at the Xiaomi EV factory are required to work longer hours, 10-11 hours a day, the report said, citing a service provider source.

Workers need to cover two shifts and work six days a week, according to the report.

Xiaomi launched its first electric vehicle (EV) model, the SU7, on March 28, offering three variants -- standard, Pro, and Max -- with starting prices of RMB 215,900 ($29,800), RMB 245,900, and RMB 299,900 million yuan.

Deliveries of the standard and Max versions of the SU7 began on April 3, and deliveries of the SU7 Pro began in May.

On May 15, Xiaomi EV said it would ensure it meets its 100,000-unit delivery target this year.

On May 23, Xiaomi management said in an earnings call that Xiaomi EV will deliver at least 100,000 units for the full year 2024 and will challenge the 120,000-unit delivery target.

The Xiaomi EV factory would start double-shift production in June and would deliver at least 10,000 units that month, Xiaomi management said at the time.

The SU7 has gained unprecedented acceptance since its launch, and customers who order the SU7 currently have to wait at least 30 weeks for delivery, according to data monitored by CnEVPost.

The model delivered 8,646 units in May, bringing cumulative deliveries to 15,764, according to a Hong Kong Stock Exchange announcement from Xiaomi.
