The Luxeed R7 will be the second model under the Luxeed brand jointly created by Huawei and Chery and will be the first coupe SUV under Huawei's HIMA business.

Huawei will build a joint model with Chery called Luxeed R7, which will be the second model under the Luxeed brand jointly created by the two companies and will be the first coupe SUV under Huawei's HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) business.

HIMA is set to welcome its first coupe SUV, which is the Luxeed R7, a joint effort between Huawei and Chery, Huawei's managing director and chairman of the intelligent vehicle solutions business unit, Richard Yu, announced on Weibo today.

The R comes from Revolution, which stands for breakthrough and disruption, according to Yu.

The Luxeed R7 will feature a new coupe SUV design with sleek, sporty styling and an interior space that will break through imaginations, he claimed.

Coupled with Huawei's smart technologies, the Luxeed R7 surpasses traditional luxury car brands in terms of product excellence, Yu said, adding that the model offers consumers in the era of smart mobility a new and better choice of coupe SUV.

HIMA is one of the many ways in which Huawei has partnered with car companies, and is the deepest the tech giant has been involved in. The model, previously known as Zhixuan, was upgraded in November 2023 to HIMA.

Luxeed, a joint brand between Huawei and Chery, launched the Luxeed S7 sedan on November 28, 2023, the first model of the new brand.

Yu relaunched the Luxeed S7 at Huawei's HarmonyOS eco spring communication event on April 11 this year, with most variants seeing a price drop.

In addition to Luxeed, brands under the HIMA umbrella include Aito, built by Huawei and Seres, and Stelato, built by Huawei and BAIC.

Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC) is also working on a new brand with Huawei, although the name has yet to be announced and the first model is expected to go on sale in 2025.

Models currently available under the HIMA umbrella include the Aito M5, Aito M7, Aito M9, and Luxeed S7, which saw a total of 30,578 units delivered in May, up 3.19 percent from April, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday just past -- June 8-10 -- HIMA's models received more than 7,000 orders, according to figures it released today.

Aito launched the M7 Ultra on May 31, saying at the time that the SUV was expected to reach 20,000 deliveries in June, which would put the Aito brand on track to reach 40,000 deliveries in a single month.
