China NEV retail at 790,000 in May, up 17% from Apr, preliminary CPCA data show
China's NEV penetration at retail stood at 46.88 percent in May and 40.26 percent year-to-date, according to preliminary data from the CPCA.
China's retail sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) rebounded in May, as the overall market improved.
Retail sales of passenger NEVs in China totaled 790,000 units in May, up 36 percent from a year ago and up 17 percent from April, according to preliminary data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
The preliminary figure is higher than the 770,000-unit estimate released by the CPCA on May 23. Final figures are expected to be released later this month.
So far this year, China's cumulative retail sales of passenger NEVs totaled 3.242 million units, up 34 percent year-on-year.
Wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs in May were 903,000 units, up 33 percent from a year earlier and up 15 percent from April, according to the CPCA.
Cumulative wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs so far this year totaled 3,643,000 units, up 31 percent from a year earlier.
In May, China's retail sales of all passenger vehicles amounted to 1.685 million units, down 3 percent from a year earlier but up 10 percent from April.
So far this year, cumulative retail sales of all passenger cars in China totaled 8.052 million units, up 5 percent year-on-year.
This means that China's NEV penetration at retail stood at 46.88 percent in May and 40.26 percent so far this year.
In the first week of May -- May 1-12 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 46,584, down 9 percent year-on-year but up 28 percent from the same period in April.
In the second week of May -- May 13-19 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 44,338, down 7 percent year-on-year and down 2 percent from the same period in April.
In the third week of May -- May 20-26 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 48,340, down 2 percent year-on-year and 28 percent from the same period in April.
In the fourth week of May -- May 27-31 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 95,507, up 6 percent year-on-year and up 27 percent from the same period in April.
In May, China's wholesale sales of all passenger cars amounted to 2.01 million units, flat from May last year and up 3 percent from the same period in April.
From May 1-12, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 33,580, down 11 percent from a year earlier and down 10 percent from the same period in April.
During May 13-19, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 53,279, up 1 percent year-on-year and up 1 percent from the same period in April.
During May 20-26, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 68,138, down 5 percent year-on-year and down 30 percent from the same period in April.
From May 27-31, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 151,418, up 11 percent year-on-year and up 34 percent from the same period in April.
Cumulative wholesale sales of all passenger cars in China so far this year were 9.56 million units, up 8 percent year-on-year.
