Autoliv, the world's largest producer of airbags and seatbelts, said its partnership with Xpeng Aeroht is aimed at making low-altitude mobility safer.

Xpeng Aeroht, the flying car subsidiary of Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV), has entered into a strategic partnership with Swedish parts giant Autoliv (NYSE: ALV) as it continues to advance its product development.

Autoliv China and Xpeng Aeroht signed a strategic cooperation agreement on June 3 in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, the world's largest producer of airbags and seatbelts said in a press release yesterday.

Based on a shared commitment to the safety of future mobility, Autoliv and Xpeng Aeroht will collaborate on a series of initiatives aimed at advancing the development of flying car technology and pioneering safety solutions for the future of mobility, Autoliv said.

Xpeng Aeroht is a pioneer in the field of flying cars, building safe electric flying cars for individual users by integrating smart car and modern aviation technologies, the release noted.

The partnership represents an optimization and upgrade of Xpeng Aeroht's supply chain, said the electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) maker's founder, Zhao Deli, adding that the company hopes to create safer flying cars through the partnership.

Mikael Bratt, CEO of Autoliv, said that flying cars are a new area for the company and that Autoliv hopes to make low-altitude travel safer through the partnership.

Guangzhou-based Xpeng Aeroht was founded in 2013, and is now a technology division majority-owned by Xpeng and its chairman and CEO, He Xiaopeng.

At the Shanghai auto show in April 2021, the company unveiled the X1, which is the size of a regular car and can take off and land vertically in a parking space.

After that, Xpeng announced several new versions of its flying car.

Aeroht's flying car development path will include the eVTOL flying car and the modular flying car, Xpeng said at its October 24, 2023, Tech Day event.

The modular flying car in its entirety consists of a flying car, as well as a parent vehicle that can recharge the flying car.

On March 21, Xpeng Aeroht said the type certificate application for the modular flying car's flying body, product code X3-F, was accepted by the Civil Aviation Administration of China Central and Southern Region.
