MIIT issues Key Tasks for Standardization on ICV in 2018

Shanghai (ZXZC)- On March 27, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China (MIIT) issued the Key Tasks for the Standardization in Intelligent-connected Vehicles (ICV) in 2018 (hereinafter, the Key Tasks) to boost the ICV development in China.

The Key Tasks provides clarity in the comprehensive implementation of the Guide to the Building of the National Internet of Vehicles (IoV) Industry Standard System (ICV) that was jointly issued by the MIIT and the SAC (the Standardization Administration of China).

Meanwhile, the Key Tasks highlights the researches and the establishment of key standards in various areas, including ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems), autonomous driving test, auto information security and IoV industry.

The Key tasks points out that the research on the requirements of ICV communication, high-definition map for autonomous vehicle and traffic infrastructures should be developed as soon as possible. Meanwhile, relevant entities should launch the feasibility researches on standardization of the functions, performances and ports of LTE-V2X-based cellular communications and direct communications.

Chinese government has issued laws and regulations to open ICV road testing. In December last year, Beijing became China's first city to allow companies to test their autonomous vehicles on roads. After that, the Chinese capital released temporary plates for road tests of autonomous vehicles on March 22. Shanghai, the second city in China that issued the regulation for ICV test, launched the China's first batch of plates for the public road test of ICV. So far, some automakers or tech companies like SAIC Motor, NIO and Baidu have gotten legal permissions to test their autonomous vehicles. Besides, Chongqing and Shenzhen also issued similar policies for ICV or autonomous vehicle tests.
