BYD May sales breakdown: Song at 82,174 units, Qin 57,072

The Song and Qin families continue to be BYD's best-sellers. The Yuan family was the third best-selling BYD model in May, with 40,231 units sold.

BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDF) today reported new energy vehicle (NEV) sales for May, followed by breakdown figures showing how different brands and models performed.

BYD's NEVs include passenger NEVs and commercial NEVs, with the former including different brands including BYD, Denza, Yangwang and Fang Cheng Bao.

BYD Group sold 331,817 NEVs in May, including 330,488 passenger cars and 1,329 commercial vehicles.

BYD-branded passenger cars, including the Dynasty and Ocean series, sold 315,159 units in May, up 38.17 percent year-on-year and up 5.86 percent from April.

The Song family continued to rank as the top-selling BYD model with 82,174 units sold in May, exceeding 80,000 units for the second consecutive time. That's up 116.17 percent year-on-year and up 1.63 percent from April.

The Song family models on sale include the Song L and Song Pro DM-i of the Dynasty series, and the Song Plus EV and Song Plus DM-i of the Ocean series.

BYD's Dynasty series of Song models sold 37,267 units in May, up 0.39 percent from 37,122 units in April.

Its Ocean series of Song models sold 44,907 units in May, up 2.67 percent from 43,738 in April.

The BYD Qin family of models continued to be the second best-selling BYD model with 57,072 units sold in May. That's up 30.43 percent year-on-year and up 11.53 percent from April.

The BYD Yuan family sold 40,231 units in May, up 12.33 percent year-on-year and up 15.94 percent from April.

The Seagull sold 35,370 units in May, up 1.54 percent from 34,832 units in April.

The BYD Seagull was launched on April 26, 2023, when it had a starting price of RMB 73,800 ($10,190), making it the cheapest BYD model.

On March 6, BYD launched the Glory Edition of the Seagull with a starting price of RMB 69,800, RMB 4,000, or 5.42 percent, lower than its predecessor.

The BYD Chaser 05 sold 32,883 units in May, up 214.46 percent year-on-year and up 0.25 percent from April.

The BYD Han family sold 22,003 units in May, up 7.93 percent year-on-year and up 2.3 percent from April.

The BYD Tang sold 15,478 units in May, up 30.38 percent year-on-year and up 9.18 percent from April.

BYD Seal sold 14,311 units in May, up 77.14 percent year-on-year and up 0.29 percent from April.

BYD Dolphin sold 10,624 units in May, down 65.37 percent year-on-year while up 5.53 percent from April.

The BYD Sea Lion 07 sold 3,400 units in May. The model was launched on May 10 and is the first model of BYD's new technology platform e-Platform 3.0 Evo.

The BYD e2 sold 831 units in May, down 82.41 percent year-on-year and down 54.19 percent from April.

The BYD Frigate 07 sold 782 units in May, down 92.18 percent year-on-year and down 48.75 percent from April.

BYD's premium Denza brand delivered 12,223 units in May, up 11.07 percent year-on-year and up 9.9 percent from April.

Denza's deliveries in May included 10,158 units of the D9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), 2,031 units of the N7 SU, and 34 units of the N8 SUV.

BYD's personalized sub-brand, Fang Cheng Bao, delivered 2,430 vehicles in May. Fang Cheng Bao's first model, the Bao 5, was officially launched on 9 November 2023 and deliveries began on 23 November.

Yangwang brand delivered 608 vehicles in May. The BYD ultra-luxury sub-brand launched its first model, the U8, on September 20, 2023, with deliveries beginning on November 24.

The U8, which has a starting price of RMB 1.098 million, delivered 5,082 units from January to May.
