China NEV retail at 574,000 in May 1-26, up 2% from same period last month

China's retail penetration of NEVs stood at 47.51 percent in May 1-26, and 39.93 percent year-to-date.

China's retail sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) slowed last week, dragging down performance since the beginning of the month.

From May 1-26, retail sales of passenger NEVs in China stood at 574,000 units, up 27 percent from a year ago and up 2 percent from last month, data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) showed.

From May 1-19, China's passenger NEV retail sales stood at 412,000 units, up 10 percent from the same period last month, according to data released by the CPCA last week.

So far this year, cumulative retail sales of China's passenger NEVs stood at 3.025 million units, up 32 percent from a year earlier.

May 1-5 was this year's Labor Day holiday. May 11 was an additional business day, albeit a weekend.

Wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs from May 1-26 were 620,000 units, up 25 percent from the same period last year, but down 3 percent from the same period in April, according to the CPCA.

Cumulative wholesale sales of passenger NEVs so far this year were 3.36 million units, up 29 percent from a year earlier.

From May 1-26, China's retail sales of all passenger vehicles were 1.208 million units, 6 percent lower than the same period last year and 2 percent lower than the same period last month.

So far this year, the cumulative retail sales of all passenger cars in China amounted to 7.575 million units, up 5 percent year-on-year.

This means that China's NEV penetration at retail stood at 47.51 percent from May 1-26 and 39.93 percent year-to-date.

In the first week of May -- May 1-12 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 46,584, down 9 percent year-on-year while up 28 percent from the same period last month.

In the second week of May -- May 13-19 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 44,338, down 7 percent year-on-year and down 2 percent from the same period last month. The figure was revised down from the 48,658 posted by the CPCA last week.

In the third week of May -- May 20-26 -- China's average daily passenger car retail sales were 48,340, down 2 percent year-on-year and down 28 percent from a month earlier.

Wholesale sales of all passenger cars in China from May 1-26 were 1.253 million units, down 5 percent year-on-year and 16 percent from the same period last month.

During May 1-12, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 33,580, down 11 percent year-on-year and down 10 percent from the same period last month.

During May 13-19, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 53,279, up 1 percent year-on-year and up 1 percent from the same period last month. The figure was revised down from 63,171 reported by the CPCA last week.

During May 20-26, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 68,138, down 5 percent year-on-year and down 30 percent from a month earlier.

Cumulative wholesale sales of all passenger cars in China so far this year totaled 8.802 million units, up 8 percent year-on-year.
