Yangwang, the ultra-luxury brand of BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY), will showcase the U9 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024 in two months' time, marking the electric supercar's debut in an overseas market.

In the early hours of May 7, two Yangwang U9s departed for the UK with a ro-ro ship on their overseas journey, Hu Xiaoqing, general manager of Yangwang sales division, said on Weibo on Tuesday.

“We are very much looking forward to meeting supercar enthusiasts around the world at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July,” Hu said.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed, which dates back to 1993, is the world's most prestigious motorsports festival and is usually held in the town of Goodwood, England, in June and July each year.

This year's event will take place July 11-14.

Nio (NYSE: NIO), which showcased its ET5 sedan at last year's event, was the only Chinese auto startup to participate in the 2023 event.

BYD officially launched Yangwang -- a brand aimed at prices at the RMB 1 million level -- on January 5, 2023, when it gave the U8 as well as the U9 their debut.

BYD unveiled the e⁴ technology platform at the launch of the Yangwang brand, saying that the entire range of the premium brand's future models would be built on the platform.

Yangwang launched the U9 on February 25, with only one version of the 2-seater model available at a starting price of RMB 1.68 million ($232,500). The U8, which went on sale last September, has a starting price of RMB 1.098 million.

The Yangwang U9 measures 4,966 mm in length, 2,029 mm in width and 1,295 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm.

The model is a battery electric vehicle (BEV) with four electric motors, each with a peak power of 240 kW and a total peak power of 960 kW.

Its powertrain delivers up to 1,306 Ps horsepower and 1,680 Nm, allowing the vehicle to sprint from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 2.36 seconds, which Yangwang said exceeds the performance of a 12-cylinder engine.
