Nio (NYSE: NIO) is rumored to be announcing the management team for Onvo (Ledao in Chinese) in three days' time, with the official debut of its new mass-market brand just around the corner.

Onvo's management team will be unveiled on May 9, and the person in charge of the brand, the meaning of the brand and logo, and information about the Onvo App are expected to be announced, blogger @大别山新能源, who follows Nio's developments, said yesterday on Weibo.

The blogger's nickname literally means Dabie Mountain New Energy, and the profile implies that she focuses on tracking information about Onvo.

Onvo is Nio's sub-brand internally code-named Alps, and Nio founder, chairman, and CEO William Li had mentioned that the company often refers to the brand internally by using the name Dabie Mountain in central China, rather than Alps in Europe.

Nio confirmed the Onvo name during a media Q&A following its long-life battery strategy launch event on March 14, and said the brand launch is expected to be in early-mid May.

Last month, the company's co-founder and president, Qin Lihong, said the Onvo brand would be unveiled in mid-May.

The head of the Onvo brand is named Ai Tiecheng, a senior vice president at Nio, according to his Weibo profile.

Ai was previously the general manager of WeWork Greater China and joined Nio in 2021, as previously reported by CnEVPost.

Ai is a close friend of Qin's and a Nio ES8 Founding Edition owner, and before WeWork, held the position of vice president of marketing at the Shanghai Disney Resort.

Late last month, a Nio website page that existed for only a few hours leaked key information about the Onvo App.

The Onvo App is an app on the official Onvo website designed to provide users with a full range of automotive services and user experiences about Onvo, the page reads.

Separately, according to a video Li posted on the short-form video platform Douyin, he went to the US over the just-ended Labor Day holiday and met with Jensen Huang, the CEO of chip giant Nvidia, and discussed the direction of AI.

"I was in the US for two days of meetings over the May Day holiday, and I hadn't been to the US office in a year," Li said.

"We have some test cars in the US office, and it was the ES8 that I rode to the airport today," he said, adding, "I hope Chinese-branded cars can be sold in the US soon."

Nio management previously said it hoped to enter the US market by 2025. The complex geopolitical environment, however, is making the realization of that goal more challenging.
