BYD unveils China’s first modular electric bus in Germany

Shanghai (ZXZC)- Chinese automaker BYD premiered the first China-owned modular electric-powered bus model at the IAA Commercial Vehicles in Hanover, Germany, on September 19 local time.

Two bus models developed by BYD were showcased at the exhibition, including a 12-meter-long modular all-electric bus and an 18-meter-long articulated bus. Both models are made in Europe, carrying a series of futuristic technical facilities, such as the intelligent monitoring and diagnostic system, the battery thermal management system and intelligent power distribution management system.

Using the intelligent monitoring and diagnostic system, users will be allowed to remotely control the bus system and grab the vehicle status from the analysis and diagnosis reports given by the system.

Besides, the intelligent power distribution management system is able to automatically detect and diagnose the short circuit caused by the internal overheat or high voltage.

BYD developed the new battery thermal management system that could control the working temperature for cells within an optimal range by cooling or heating the battery up. Through this solution, the automaker makes the electric bus accommodate various severe environments, such as the areas featuring high temperature, cold weather or high altitude and prolong the operating lifetime of the battery.

The two bus models also embodies BYD's technical breakthrough in vehicle modularization and light weight. The new bus model carries 6 major modules, much less than that of the outgoing model. The simplified modular structure will help greatly improve the R&D and design efficiency. Moreover, the latest bus model is 4% lighter than that of the existing model by virtue of using new materials.
