Xiaomi delivers 7,058 cars in Apr, locked-in orders reach 88,063 units

Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) delivered 7,058 SU7 electric vehicles (EVs) in April, having started first deliveries of the model on April 3.

As of 24:00 Beijing Time on April 30, there were 88,063 locked-in orders for the SU7, Xiaomi's EV unit Xiaomi EV announced today on Weibo.

Among the locked-in order holders, 28 percent are female, 29 percent are customers who have ever owned a BMW, Mercedes-Benz or Audi model, and 52.5 percent are Apple users, Xiaomi EV said.

Xiaomi's SU7 production capacity is being expanded at full swing to accelerate deliveries and to ensure that the target of 100,000 units delivered this year is met, it said.

Xiaomi officially launched the SU7, its first EV model, on March 28, offering three trims -- standard, Pro, and Max -- with starting prices of RMB 215,900 ($29,820), RMB 245,900, and RMB 299,900, respectively.

Xiaomi was offering a Founders Edition for the SU7, limited to 5,000 units, with deliveries starting on April 3, when Lei said the SU7 received more than 100,000 firm orders and more than 40,000 locked-in orders.

Deliveries of SU7's customized vehicles began on April 18.

Xiaomi EV saw the 10,000th mass-produced SU7 roll off the production line on April 29, 32 days after the model was launched.

"We believe that one day, there will be Xiaomi cars riding on every road around the world! " Xiaomi EV wrote at the time.

Xiaomi EV's factory is located in Yizhuang, Beijing, with a planned annual capacity of 300,000 units. The plant will be built in two phases, with annual capacity of 150,000 units for Phase I and Phase II, according to a previous announcement.

Phase I of the plant, which was completed in June 2023, covers an area of about 720,000 square meters and have an annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles. The second phase is scheduled to begin construction in 2024 and is expected to be completed in 2025, according to an April 2 report by local media outlet Yicai.

Xiaomi is targeting monthly deliveries of more than 10,000 units of the SU7 in June, Lei Jun, the smartphone maker's founder, chairman, and CEO, said on April 25, the first day of the Beijing auto show.

Customers who currently order Xiaomi's SU7 will have to wait about eight months for delivery.

The current wait time for the SU7 is 28-31 weeks for the standard version, 30-33 weeks for the Pro version, and 33-36 weeks for the Max version, according to data monitored by CnEVPost.
