Luxeed, the electric vehicle (EV) brand jointly created by Huawei and Chery, relaunched its first model, the S7, earlier this month, and now appears to be free of capacity issues.

Mass deliveries of the Luxeed S7 have already begun, with more than 4,500 vehicles expected to be delivered in April, Huawei's head of automotive business Richard Yu said on Weibo today.

Huawei launched the Pura 70 series of smartphones earlier today, attracting a lot of traffic to its offline stores.

Many consumers experienced the Luxeed S7 after purchasing the Pura 70 smartphone, Yu said, adding that the sedan averaged more than 1,000 daily orders over the weekend just past after its launch earlier in the month.

Initially launched on November 28, 2023, the Luxeed S7 is the first electric sedan in models jointly built by Huawei and local automakers.

However, slow deliveries of the model after its initial launch triggered a lot of complaints on social media.

As of January 20, Chery's plant in Wuhu, Anhui province, dedicated to producing the Luxeed S7 was still in pilot production, with fewer than 10 vehicles rolling off the assembly line in a single day, according to a January 25 report by local media outlet LatePost.

At that pace, the plant could still require months of preparation if it is to achieve mass production, the report noted.

Yu re-launched the Luxeed S7 at Huawei's HarmonyOS eco spring communication on April 11, offering five variants -- Pro, Max, Max+, Max RS, and Ultra -- with starting prices of RMB 249,800 ($34,500), RMB 269,800, RMB 299,800, RMB 329,800 and RMB 349,800 respectively.

The starting price of the entry-level version of the Luxeed S7 remains unchanged, but the CLTC range has been increased from 550 kilometers to 705 kilometers. All other variants have been reduced by RMB 20,000 in price.

Chery has set up a separate business unit and built an exclusive manufacturing industrial park for the Luxeed project, Yu said in the event, adding that Luxeed sees an average of one S7 roll off the assembly line every minute, and that the model had already begun volume deliveries.
