China's NEV retail at 97,000 in Apr 1-6, up 5% from same period last month

Retail sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in China rose only modestly last week from the same period in March, mainly due to a holiday.

From April 1-6, retail sales of passenger NEVs in China totaled 97,000 units, up 48 percent from a year ago and up 5 percent from a month ago, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

So far this year, cumulative retail sales of passenger NEVs in China totaled 1,869,000 units, up 35 percent from the same period last year.

Wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs from April 1-6 were 96,000 units, up 60 percent from the same period last year and up 7 percent from the same period in February, according to the CPCA.

Cumulative wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs so far this year totaled 2.048 million units, up 31 percent from a year earlier.

April 4-6 was this year's Qingming Festival, or Tomb Sweeping Day, holiday. April 7 was an additional workday, albeit a Sunday.

From April 1-6, retail sales of all passenger cars in China were 206,000 units, 8 percent lower than the same period last year and 3 percent lower than the same period last month.

So far this year, cumulative retail sales of all passenger cars in China are 5.038 million units, up 12 percent from a year earlier.

This means that China's NEV penetration at retail stood at 47.09 percent from April 1-6 and 37.1 percent year-to-date.

In the first week of April -- April 1-6 -- the average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China was 34,273 units.

Wholesale sales of all passenger cars in China for April 1-6 were 192,000 units, up 13 percent compared with the same period last year, but 10 percent lower than the same period last month.

During April 1-6, China's average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars was 32,057 units.

Cumulative wholesale sales of all passenger cars in China so far this year were 5.786 million units, up 11percent from a year earlier.
