China's new energy vehicle (NEV) retail sales rebounded significantly last month from the previous month, as the effects of the Chinese New Year holiday subsided.

In March, retail sales of passenger NEVs in China totaled 698,000 units, up 28 percent from the same month last year and up 80 percent from February, according to preliminary data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

Cumulative retail sales of passenger NEVs so far this year totaled 1.758 million units, up 34 percent from a year earlier.

Wholesale sales of passenger NEVs in China in March were 819,000 units, up 33 percent from the same month last year and up 83 percent from February, according to the CPCA.

So far this year, cumulative wholesale sales of passenger NEVs in China totaled 1.956 million units, up 31 percent from a year earlier.

In March, China's retail sales of all passenger vehicles amounted to 1.699 million units, up 7 percent year-on-year and up 54 percent from February.

This means that the penetration rate of NEVs in retail sales in China was 41.08 percent in March.

Year-to-date retail sales of all passenger vehicles in China were 4.841 million units, up 13 percent year-on-year.

In the first week of March -- March 1-10 -- the average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China was 35,490 units, up 4 percent year-on-year, but down 4 percent from the same period in February.

In the second week of March -- March 11-17 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 44,759 units, up 13 percent year-on-year and up 75 percent from the same period in February. The figure was revised down from 49,045 units reported by the CPCA last week.

In the third week of March -- March 18-24 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 51,413 units, up 16 percent year-on-year and up 32 percent from the same period in February. The figure was revised upward from 47,128 units posted by the CPCA last week.

In the fourth week of March -- March 25-31 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 95,829 units, up 1 percent year-on-year and up 70 percent from the same period in February.

In March, China's wholesale sales of all passenger vehicles were 2.165 million units, up 9 percent year-on-year and up 66 percent from the same period last month.

Cumulative wholesale sales of all passenger cars in China so far this year totaled 5.565 million units, up 10 percent year-on-year.

From March 1-10, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 35,705 units, down 2 percent from the same period last year, but up 50 percent from the same period last month.

For the March 11-17 period, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 57,335 units, up 35 percent from a year earlier and up 193 percent from a month earlier. The figure was revised down from 58,764 units posted last week.

During March 18-24, China's average daily passenger car wholesale sales were 64,157 units, up 22 percent year-on-year and 57 percent month-on-month. The figure was revised up from 62,728 units posted last week.

During March 25-31, China's average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars were 136,812 units, unchanged from a year earlier and up 7 percent from a month earlier.
