BYD's EV plant in Thailand to start production in Q3 2024

BYD announced the plan at the ongoing Bangkok auto show, where its full range of brands including BYD, Yangwang, Fang Cheng Bao and Denza are participating.

BYD displayed models from its brands including the BYD brand, Yangwang, Fang Cheng Bao and Denza at the show, marking the first time its entire brand has been displayed simultaneously at an overseas auto show.

The company rolled out the 2024 Atto 3 long range version, called Yuan Plus in China, at the show and started pre-sales for the Denza D9 MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle).

BYD also brought the new right-hand drive Song Max EV, the BYD Sealion -- in China as the Sea Lion 07, the BYD Seal U -- in China as the Song Plus EV. Tthe Yangwang U9, the Fang Cheng Bao's Bao 5 also made their first appearance in Thailand.

The company signed a land purchase agreement with Thai industrial property developer WHA Industrial Development PLC, a subsidiary of WHA Group, back in September 2022 to build an EV plant there.

On March 10, 2023, BYD held a groundbreaking ceremony for the plant, as well as a delivery ceremony for the 9,999th and the 10,000th BYD Atto 3 there.

The plant is expected to start production in 2024 with an annual capacity of around 150,000 units, BYD said at the time.

In addition to Thailand, BYD started production at its plant in Uzbekistan in January this year and is also building passenger car plants in Hungary and Brazil.
