Mazda China sales surge 32.4% to 54,044 in first two months

Shanghai (ZXZC)- The Japanese automaker Mazda has delivered a total of 54,044 vehicles in China in the first two months this year, jumping 32.4% year on year and reaching a new high of cumulative sales of the first two months in China, according to Mazda Motor (China) Co., Ltd.

Both Sino-Japanese joint ventures, FAW-Mazda and Changan Mazda, achieved year-on-year sales growth in the first two months. Specifically, FAW-Mazda's sales grow 9.0% from a year earlier to 21,535 units. Changan Mazda delivered a total of 32,509 vehicles in January and February, surging 54.4% from the previous year.

In terms of the February sales, Mazda handed over 20,088 vehicles last month, not only jumping 27.3% over the previous year, but also setting a new record of February sales. FAW-Mazda and Changan Mazda sold 8,059 units and 12,029 units respectively, with year-on-year sales growth of 9.7% and 42.6%.

According to Nobuhiko Watabe, Chairman of Mazda Motor (China) Co., Ltd, the automaker aims to achieve a sales target of 310,000 vehicles in this country this year. Mazda obtained an outstanding annual sales performance last year to 309,407 units with a year-on-year growth of 8.3%. This was the first time that the Japanese automaker had delivered over 300,000 vehicles in China annually.

Changan Mazda plans to launch an all-new SUV model CX-8 in China in the second half of this year. Positioned to be a medium-large SUV, the CX-8 measures 4,900mm in length, 1,840mm in width and 1,730mm in height and boasts a wheelbase of 2,930mm. The biggest attraction of the CX-8 is that it will provide two variants of a 6-seat layout and 7-seat layout. Especially, the 6-seat layout version will be equipped with a central armrest which enhances the riding comfort.

In addition, the Mazda MX-5 Z-Sport Limited Edition will go on sale in China this month. The use of gray body and red ceiling offers an impressive visual contrast. Featuring a double-eight-spoke BBS rim, the model looks elegant and sporty.

Meanwhile, the Mazda MX-5 Z-Sport Limited Edition will be powered by a 2.0L naturally aspirated engine which is able to output a maximum power of 117kW. The new model will be imported to China's market by FAW-Mazda.
