Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC) said the first model it is jointly building with Chinese tech giant Huawei is expected to hit the market next year.
JAC and Huawei have launched a comprehensive strategic partnership to create a luxury smart internet-connected electric vehicle (EV), which is expected to go on sale in 2025, the automaker said in a New Year's message today.
JAC didn't mention any more plans for the new model, but it indirectly denied a timeline mentioned in a local media report late last month.
In a January 31 report, Yicai said the first model Huawei and JAC build together is not a Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV), as previously rumored, but a sedan.
The sedan, which will be priced in the RMB 1 million ($140,000) level, will take on the BMW 7-Series and is expected to go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2024, the report said.
Construction work on the plant for producing the model, located in Feixi, Anhui province, is currently nearing completion, according to the report.
On December 1, JAC announced that it and Huawei had reached an agreement to collaborate on product development, manufacturing, sales, and services based on Huawei's smart car solutions.
The goal of the two is to create luxury smart internet-connected EVs that meet the needs and expectations of users, JAC said at the time.
The product development of the collaborative models will be under the overall responsibility of JAC, and the automaker will create an advanced production base that will utilize its capabilities in the manufacturing sector, according to the announcement by JAC in December.
In the automotive sector, Huawei has already partnered with car companies including Seres Group and Chery to produce vehicles.
