Starting with the unveiling of the global R&D hub, Evergrande intends to further expand its strategic deployment in Shanghai, endeavoring to develop itself into a world-class automaker with its self-owned NEV brand, said Xu Jiayin, chairman of Evergrande Group.

The Shanghai-headquartered R&D institute is designed to build a whole value chain covering such businesses as forward-looking technology research, product planning, concept design, engineering design and prototype validation, and will initially form a senior R&D and management team of around 3,000 staff at home and abroad focusing on premium NEVs.

The Chinese real estate titan kicked off the plan in early September to recruit a total of 8,000 world-class experts and technical talents in new energy vehicle industry worldwide for the R&D global headquarters.

After joining the group's global NEV institute, talents would work in spots scattered around nine countries including China, Sweden, Germany, UK, Netherlands, Austria, Italy, Japan and South Korea.

The global headquarters consists of three branches that focus on automobile, powertrain and battery respectively. The positions to be filled cover a wide range of fields. For instance, the automobile institute needs engineers specializing in the complete vehicle platform, power assembly, vehicle integration, car body, chassis system, electronic, IoV (Internet of Vehicles) and autonomous driving.

Aside from the launch of the global R&D institute, local government of Songjiang District, Shanghai also entered cooperation agreements with Evergrande New Energy Automotive Group and Evergrande Power Technology Group for the vehicle capacity expansion and the R&D of in-wheel electric motors.

The China's property conglomerate has been drawing widespread attention of the automobile industry with its series of cash-burning moves. In recent two months, shortly after joining hands with five world's leading automotive engineering and technology companies, Evergrande Group signed contracts with fifteen global well-known automotive engineers from countries like Germany, Italy, the U.S., France and Japan.

Under the former agreement, Evergrande will work with the five auto giants to jointly develop 15 new automobile models, covering a full range of product types including the top-grade, ultra-luxury, luxury, exclusive, comfortable and classic models (Photo source: Evergrande and its social media).
