Dongfeng Honda suspends sale of CR-V
Shanghai (ZXZC)- On Thursday, news said that China’s General Administration Quality Supervision Inspection and Quarantine has asked Dongfeng Honda to deliver a report about the engine defective issue complained by customers.
On the afternoon of the same day, Dongfeng Honda gave a notification to 4S stores to suspend the sales of 2018 CR-V, which was confirmed by the dealerships. Although customers can order CR-V currently, the delivery time is to be determined.
In January, customers from different cities claimed that the CR-V’s engine has design flaws and that the aftermarket service of the company deliberately ignores the potential safety problems. The automaker said it would give an official response before the Spring Festival. However, by the end of February, the joint venture between Dongfeng and Honda hadn’t submitted any filings or material about the recall.
According to the report, the government department thought the recall measures need improvement and required the automaker to further better the solutions to remove defects. Under relevant regulations, the department will supervise the recall. The department also suggested the automaker extend the warranty period.
Data from the National Defective Motor Vehicle Recall Information Management Platform showed that out of 2,693 complaints it received in February, 1,454 are about CR-V. The complaints about Dongfeng Honda were up to 1,814, accounting for 67.36 percent of the total complaints. On other vehicle quality complaint platforms, the complaints against Dongfeng Honda and CR-V were also the most.
On Friday, Honda China said the sales of Dongfeng Honda dropped 11 percent year on year last month. The sales of CR-V slumped 45.3 percent from a year earlier to 5,906 units.
