Geely to set up new DMA plant in Ningbo for new flagship sedan

Shanghai (ZXZC)- Geely is about to set up a new DMA plant in Meishan, Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, according to local media who got the news from China Construction Eighth Engineering Division. Corp. Ltd. Besides, the automaker's DMA plant in Hangzhou Bay New Zone, Ningbo, is expected to be put into operation this year.

It is predicted that the company's Meishan DMA plant will manufacture Geely and Lynk & Co's B-class and C-class sedans as well as SUVs. According to an engineer from Geely's R&D center in Hangzhou Bay, the automaker will build a flagship sedan model larger than Borui based on DMA platform. The new model is expected to be in the same size class as the BMW 5 Series, the medium-large sedan series.

Geely aims to accomplish four major modular platforms, including AMA, BMA, CMA and DMA. Among them, CMA (Compact Modular Architecture platform) has been put into use for the production of the models under Lynk & Co. The DMA platform, jointly built by Geely and Volvo, is designed to develop more high-end products, covering new energy vehicle models.

There are some words from unofficial channels saying that the DMA platform is an upgrading version of Volvo's SPA platform (scalable product architecture). At present, Geely and Volvo share resources in manufacture of products which much reduce the cost of auto parts purchasing and amortize the R&D costs for both parties. Currently, the main products of Volvo are still from SPA platform, covering B-class and C-class sedans, such as S90, XC90, S60 and XC60. In the future, DMA platform may be used for a deeper sharing between the Geely and Volvo's production.
