Tesla sells 94,139 China-made cars in Dec, 2nd highest on record
China-made Tesla vehicles sold 248,686 units in the fourth quarter, contributing 51.33 percent of its global deliveries.
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) sold 94,139 China-made vehicles in December, the second highest on record behind November 2022's 100,291 units and the highest in a single month in 2023, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
The monthly sales, including exports to overseas markets, were up 68.72 percent year-on-year and up 14.2 percent from November.
Tesla sold 248,686 China-made vehicles in the fourth quarter, up 9.17 percent year-on-year and up 11.76 percent from the third quarter, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
Yesterday, Tesla released figures showing that it delivered 484,507 vehicles worldwide in the fourth quarter.
The latest figures mean that China-made vehicles contributed 51.33 percent of Tesla's global deliveries in the fourth quarter, slightly up from 51.15 percent in the third quarter.
For the full year 2023, Tesla sold 947,742 China-made vehicles, which is almost equal to the current capacity of the Chinese factory, up 33.32 percent from 710,865 in 2022.
Tesla has a factory in Shanghai with a current capacity of more than 950,000 vehicles per year, its largest in the world, according to the company's third-quarter financial report released in October.
The plant, which produces the Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover, not only delivers to local consumers, but is also an export center for Tesla. A breakdown of local deliveries and exports is not currently available.
China-made vehicles contributed 52.4 percent of Tesla's 1,808,581 global deliveries for the year in 2023.
