Qingdao Aucma releases China’s first driverless car with independent intellectual property right

Shanghai (ZXZC)- Recently, an electric van running at Qingdao Sino-German Ecopark attracted lots of attention. This arresting van, launched by Aucma, the Qingdao-based refrigeration equipment supplier, is the China's first driverless van with independent intellectual property right.

According to Lv Jianlong, manager of Qingdao Aucma Electric Vehicle Co. Ltd's technical department, this driverless van is made of special composite materials, tempered glass and ABS plastics. It measures a length of 4.24 meters, a width of 1.55 meters and a height of 1.95 meters and weighs nearly 1000 kg.

Although this driverless vehicle may look nothing special with normal vans from its exterior, it is quite “smart”. In accordance with Lv’s introduction, the van equips with binocular camera at the roof which can detect the objects around 60 meters ahead. Besides, the vehicle mounts two circular microwave radars on both sides below car windows and several ultrasonic radars around the vehicle which are capable of sensing surroundings.

Currently, this driverless van can realize self-navigation and self-driving in closed and semi-closed field. In addition, it can be applied in many areas, such as directed logistics, human commuting, sightseeing tour, transshipment at port and public transportation, etc.

What’s more, thanks to the use of AI technologies, the van can achieve self-learning. For instance, if there are many cars passing through its left side, the vehicle will know that the left is the opposite path versus the direction it is heading, according to Lv Jianglong.

Compared with driverless vehicles produced by other makers, Aucma has optimized its product in arithmetic. Meanwhile, rather than using expensive sensors, the vehicle carries Aucma's self-developed driverless system with low cost and high reliability.

Zhang Xing, general-manager of Qingdao Aucma Holdings Group Co., Ltd, revealed that the company will release a series of driverless vehicle with various functions, such as police patrol car, driverless sweeping vehicle, sprinkler, port transporting vehicle and farm machinery. In addition, since driverless vehicle is still limited in on-road running, the company will mainly apply the vehicles in scenic spots, residential areas and ports, etc.
