Luxeed launched its first model, the Luxeed S7, on November 28 as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model 3.
(A spy shot circulating on Chinese social media that was alleged to be Luxeed's second model.)
Luxeed, the new electric vehicle (EV) brand jointly created by Huawei and Chery, will launch its second model in the second half of next year, according to a report from local media outlet Lanjinger today.
The model, internally codenamed EHY and also dubbed the larger Model Y, comes with a 100 kWh battery pack, the report said, citing an industry source close to Huawei.
The Tesla Model Y measures 4,750 mm in length, 1,921 mm in width and 1,624 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,890 mm, and the entry-level version carries a battery pack with a capacity of 60 kWh.
Both of Luxeed's initial models will target Tesla, with the first model, the Luxeed S7, internally codenamed EH3, designed to compete with Tesla's Model 3 sedan, according to the report.
The Luxeed S7 officially went on sale on November 28 and is offered in four variants with starting prices of RMB 249,800 ($34,948), RMB 289,800, RMB 319,800, and RMB 349,800 respectively.
The Luxeed S7 measures 4,971 mm in length, 1,963 mm in width and 1,474 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm.
Although the sedan's direct competitor is the Model 3, Huawei's head of automotive business Richard Yu repeatedly compared the model at the launch event to Tesla's more expensive Model S sedan, which measures 4,979 mm in length, 1,964 mm in width and 1,445 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,960 mm.
The Luxeed S7 is built on Huawei's 800 V-based Giant Whale high-voltage platform, with a CLTC range of up to 855 km for the version that starts at RMB 319,800. Its other three versions have CLTC ranges of 550 km, 630 km, and 705 km respectively.
The model went on pre-sale on November 9 and received 20,000 pre-sale orders as of November 28, Yu previously said.
Earlier this month, some auto bloggers on Chinese social media platforms said that the model with the internal codename EHY will be the Luxeed S9, and shared several spy photos.
