China's Oct NEV sales up 5.75% MoM to record 956,000, CAAM data show

Excluding exports, China's NEV sales in October were a record 832,000 units, up 2.9 percent from September.

China's new energy vehicle (NEV) sales reached a new record last month, moving one step closer to 1 million units, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

China sold 956,000 NEVs in October, surpassing September's previous record of 904,000 to reach a new high, according to data released today by the CAAM.

This represents an increase of about 34 percent over the 714,000 units sold in the same period last year, and an increase of 5.75 percent over September.

The CAAM's NEV sales are the carmaker's wholesale sales, including those in China and those exported to overseas markets. NEVs include battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), and fuel-cell vehicles.

BEV sales were a record 646,000 units in October, up 19 percent year-on-year and up 3 percent from September.

PHEV sales in October were a record 310,000 units, the sixth consecutive record month. This was up 80.2 percent year-on-year and up 11.91 percent from September.

Fuel cell vehicle sales in October were up 56.4 percent to 500 units.

China's all vehicle sales in October were 2,853,000 units, up 1.50 percent year-on-year and 0.2 percent lower than in September.

This means that the penetration rate of NEVs was 33.5 percent in October, up from 31.6 percent in September.

China's production of NEVs in October was 989,000 units, an increase of 29.2 percent year-on-year.

China's production of all vehicles in October was 2,891,000 units, up 11.2 percent year-on-year and up 1.5 percent from September.

China's NEV sales increased 37.8 percent year-on-year to 7,280,000 units in January-October, accounting for 30.4 percent of the 23,919,000 units of all vehicles sold.

BEV sales were up 25.2 percent year-on-year to 5.16 million units in the January-October period, and PHEVs were up 82.6 percent year-on-year to 2.116 million units.

In October, 488,000 vehicles were exported from China, up 44.2 percent year-on-year and up 9.8 percent from September.

Among them, exports of NEVs amounted to 124,000 units, up 12.8 percent year-on-year and up 29.3 percent from September.

China exported 3.922 million vehicles from January to October, up 59.7 percent year-on-year. NEVs exported 995,000 units in the period, up 99.1 percent year-on-year.

Excluding exports, China sold a record 832,000 NEVs locally in October, up 33.3 percent year-on-year and up 2.9 percent from September.

In the January-October period, China's NEV sales, excluding exports, were 6.285 million units, up 31.4 percent year-on-year.
