Zeekr, the premium electric vehicle (EV) subsidiary of Geely Holding Group, plans to expand into Hong Kong and Macau next year, marking its first foray into the right-hand drive markets and a further expansion of its global presence.

Zeekr will start selling the Zeekr X city SUV and Zeekr 009 MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) in Hong Kong and Macau in the second half of 2024, and plans to open three showrooms in Hong Kong and one in Macau, Bloomberg said in a report today, citing a company representative.

Hong Kong and Macau will be the first to get Zeekr's right-hand-drive models, and the company will continue to evaluate other right-hand-drive markets, including the UK and Japan, Zeekr said.

Kam Lung Motor Group, Zeekr's distribution partner in the Greater Bay Area of South China, will also begin selling left-hand-drive Zeekr models in Macau in the coming months, ahead of the right-hand-drive versions hitting the market, the representative said, according to the report.

Zeekr was founded in 2021 and its first model, the Zeekr 001, was launched on April 15, 2021, with deliveries beginning in October 2021 in China.

The Zeekr 009, the company's second model, went on sale on November 1, 2022, and its deliveries began on January 15. On April 12, Zeekr released its third model, the Zeekr X, and its deliveries began on June 12.

Zeekr unveiled its European strategy on April 18, the first day of the Shanghai auto show, with the Netherlands and Sweden being the first two countries in which it will enter the international market. On June 27, the company began pre-sales of the Zeekr 001 and Zeekr X in these countries.

On July 10, Zeekr announced that it had signed an agreement with Israeli distributor Union Group to jointly establish a car distribution network in Israel.

Zeekr will launch the Zeekr 001 and Zeekr X in Israel, with pre-sales and subsequent deliveries expected to begin in the fourth quarter, the company said in July.

Zeekr's international presence will increase to six countries by 2024 and eight by 2025, the company said in late August.

Zeekr delivered 12,053 vehicles in September, up 45.64 percent year-on-year but down 2.03 percent from August, according to data the company released earlier this month.

In the January-September period, Zeekr's cumulative deliveries stood at 79,028 vehicles, up 100.20 percent from 39,474 vehicles in the same period last year. It aims to double its deliveries this year from last year to about 140,000 vehicles.
