Nio (NYSE: NIO) officially launched the new EC6 coupe SUV in China on September 15, completing the transition of all models based on the older NT 1.0 platform to the latest NT 2.0 platform.
The electric vehicle (EV) maker then updated its EC6 page in its mobile app which shows that customers with currently locked-in orders will have to wait 3-4 weeks to get deliveries, CnEVPost's check today showed.
Prior to the release of the new EC6, changes to the Nio app on September 14 showed shorter wait times for the ES8 and EC7 and longer wait times for the ET5 and ET5 Touring.
The wait times for all other models remain unchanged today at 3-4 weeks for both ES6 and EC7, 4-5 weeks for ES7, ET7, ET5, ET5 Touring and 5-6 weeks for ES8.
Nio launched the new EC6 on September 15 with a starting price of RMB 358,000 ($49,210), RMB 20,000 higher than the RMB 338,000 starting price of the new ES6.
Although the new EC6 is priced higher than the ES6, it makes comfort features, including the "Queen's seat", which is optional at a cost in the latter, standard.
When Nio warmed up the new EC6 on September 11, it said that deliveries of the model would begin the day after the launch.
However, on the day of the launch, the company said that deliveries of the new EC6 started on the night of the September 15 launch.
According to a report in local media The Beijing News today, staff at a Nio showroom in Beijing said the store has a small number of new EC6 vehicles that have already been produced, and that customers who buy such vehicles can have them delivered in about a week.
The launch of the new EC6 is yet another personalized option from Nio for the premium EV market. The EC7, released late last year, is a more expensive coupe SUV.
With the release of the new EC6, Nio's eight products will target the high-end pure EV market, meeting the diversified needs of customers in the premium segment and driving steady growth in overall deliveries, the company's management said in an analyst call on August 29 after it announced its second-quarter earnings.
