Mass production of Tesla's revamped Model 3 could begin as early as next month in China, Bloomberg said in a report today, citing people familiar with the matter.

The US electric vehicle (EV) maker is in the final stages of producing display vehicles that will be shipped to Tesla showrooms later in August, according to the report.

Mass production of the revamped Model 3 is expected to begin in September, with production increasing during China's National Day holiday, the people said.

October 1 is China's National Day, and this year's legal holiday runs from September 29 to October 6, with September 29 being the Mid-Autumn Festival. October 7 and October 8 will be work days, even though they're weekends.

The exterior design and interior components of the revamped Model 3 have been changed to make the car more stylish, a person familiar with the matter said, adding that its overall cost will be lower than the current version when produced at full capacity.

Notably, local media outlet China Securities Journal cited a person familiar with the matter as saying in a report yesterday that Tesla's revamped Model 3 is expected to go on sale in China within half a month.

Although Tesla is offering several deals for the Model 3 in China, potential customers are still choosing to wait for the updated version of the model, according to the report.

Meanwhile, some of Tesla's stores have already started accepting pre-orders from Chinese customers for the revamped Model 3, according to the report by China Securities Journal.

Earlier today, another local media outlet, Yicai, reported that Tesla store personnel in China said the new Model 3 will go on sale in September or October.

Tesla stores have already started taking orders for the revamped Model 3, the report said, echoing the report by China Securities Journal yesterday.

On March 1, Reuters reported that Tesla was working to retool its Shanghai assembly plant for the revamped version of the Model 3, a project codenamed Highland by Tesla.

The Highland version of the Model 3 is expected to go into production in Shanghai in September, the Reuters report said, citing a person familiar with the matter.

On July 7, local media outlet Jiemian reported that production line tuning of the revamped Model 3 was almost complete, with prototypes then being tested on the factory's roads over weekends.

On August 14, Tesla cut the prices of two pricier versions of the Model Y both by RMB 14,000 ($1,920) and offered a RMB 8,000 insurance subsidy for Model 3 entry-level inventory cars.
